Sand People

Tiki

As we were driving around one afternoon, we passed by a "shrimp shack" and decided to stop.  Also got some fresh coconut and pineapple juice.  Devon noticed a man doing some Tiki carvings.  Colin signed him up for a class, and he made an awesome tiki man!  It was a great experience, and something he's wanted to learn how to do for a long time.

Campout

Colin, Calvin, and Devon went on a ward overnight campout and had a great time!

Juice Fast

After watching a documentary called "Sick, Fat, and Nearly Dead," the boys were completely inspired to do a juice fast!  Originally it was going to be 10 days, then it became 7, then at day 4 they decided to end it.  So they consumed nothing but  fresh juice for almost 4 whole days!  I don't know how they did it, but I was pretty proud of their determination to better their health.  We sure went through a lot of produce!

Em participated for almost a full day!

Archery on the beach

Home made bows and arrows!

Coconut carver

We have a coconut tree, ghekos, and lizards at our house.  This one is a feisty one!

TIffy

I thought these two pictures of Tiffany were cute.  She and Calvin are working hard on some kind of sand fortress.  Below, she is praying before eating her lunch.  She did it all on her own, and I know she got the idea from watching the older kids do it.  So sweet!

EFY

Here we are dropping the boys off for 5 days at BYU Hawaii EFY (Especially For Youth).  They had a wonderful time, made new friends, learned a lot, and their testimonies grew.  In their words it was "life-changing."  I'm so grateful for church programs like these that strengthen our youth!

Guatemalan Hawaii photo shoot

One of our friends in Guatemala gave us this idea.  We dressed up in our "Guatemalan garb" and took some pics on the beach.  Can you tell where our hearts still are?!

Hawaii!

We arrived in Hawaii the night of July 4th.  Got off the airplane, and realized our rental car was at a hotel that would cost $100 just to drive us all there (wasn't far away at all!).  Definitely more expensive than a Tuk-Tuk!!  Luckily Colin found some cheaper transportation through the airport, and we got there for less.  We picked up some Chinese food (I was in a jet-lagged stooper so I slept in the car and was totally out of it), then headed to our hotel.  Colin took the older kids to watch the fireworks while I got younger kids fed and to bed.  Unfortunately, they arrived at the park just as the fireworks had ended.  Tall buildings blocked any fireworks they may have seen while walking.  Oh well, we had tons of firework time while in Guatemala!
The next morning, we said a prayer to find a house (everything we had checked online while in Guatemala was booked or ridiculously expensive), and felt impressed to head to Laie, mainly because that's where the boys will be during the week of EFY.  We began our drive, and eventually pulled off the road so the kids and I could play at the beach, and Colin could continue searching for houses on the I-Pad.  He took off at one point, came back a while later, and happily exclaimed, "I found our house!"  And that he did.  It was listed for over $6,000, but the owner happened to be there as he pulled up, which she told him was strange because she is rarely at the house.  The middle-man who listed it was way over-priced, and the actual price was less than our rental in Alpine, UT!  Plus, our backyard is the ocean!  It's a cozy 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath, and it was available to move in that day, and available through Aug as well (very unusual since most places we looked at online were completely booked during the time we needed it!).  Colin, Calvin, and Devon headed the 50 min. back to our hotel.  They said we could check out if we were back before 3pm, and not have to pay for another night.  I stayed with Em and the T's, headed to a very nice McDonald's which was the only eating place in walking distance from the house, enjoyed lunch there (I know I'm very hungry if I'm actually enjoying McDonald's food), and played at the beach until the guys returned.  After 1 1/2 days, we got completely settled in, with everything organized and in living order.  Let the Hawaiian adventures begin!

Our backyard!

Get ready...
Get set (waiting for the perfect wave)...
Go sand surfing!
Tameeka singing at the top of her lungs (this always happens in the car, and apparently on the beach as well)

So grateful to be here, and still can't believe we are!

"To the crabs!"
These little guys are so fun to watch and they're everywhere!  The kids like to dig for them,  catch and hold them with their bare hands.  They've only gotten pinched a few times.  It's kind of like lizard-hunting!
