Egg Night

We heard that tonight was a holiday of some sort where kids go out into the streets and throw eggs at each other.  So our kids got all decked out and painted each other's faces.  The Dennings and us went around looking for some action, but it seemed most of the egg-throwing had already ended.  Calvin had fun planting an egg smack dab on  his friend's head from church as he innocently walked down the street!  And also on Greg's back right as we were all saying goodnight.  I think Calvin was disappointed he didn't get covered in eggs!  

Primary clean-up project

This Primary Achievement/Scout activity was a huge hit!  We had a spiritual lesson about gratitude for God's creations,  and sang primary songs as we hiked. On our way back down, the kids all picked up garbage!  They got so into it, they didn't want to stop.  We met up with some ladies on our way who had extra bags.  When it was all done, we brought our trash to the recycle center.

Mutual

The kids had a fun mutual activity where Lucy taught them how to make cornbread.  They played soccer while it was cooking, then got to eat the bread (which they said was so delicious!).  

Project at Presidente's

The perpetual self-reliance project on Presidente's land is coming along nicely! Chicken house and pig pen have been made....

Pig gets extra food each Wed. and Sun when we bring our buckets of scraps from home 

Chickens are laying brown eggs, though a little small so people aren't buying them yet (except for us!)

Emop

We went to visit a place called emop.  They work with locals, provide seeds,  and have a growing facility of their own.  I love the ingenuity and recycling-awareness there.  

Non-functional right now, but it was bike that was created power by peddling it.

Solar oven (made of wood and tin foil).  The gal showing it to us had made banana bread in it that morning, and was in the process of cooking a pot of beans.

Acupuncture, piano lessons, H2O explosion, & friends

The girls had a grand ol' time doing acupuncture on some stuffed animals with my sewing pins!

This elder from the D.R. asked for piano lessons.  He knows the right hand, but wanted to learn how to play with his left.  So after church, we had a lesson.  

He progressed quickly!

By the end his brain hurt, I could tell!  Check out that look of concentration!  

One night, all us grown ups went out to take salsa dance lessons.  It was very fun and we all learned some fancy moves. Then we went out to dinner.  I came home early and there was a water burst outside.  The spicket had been knocked off and water was literally spewing everywhere.  These creative kids started filling up buckets and water containers with the spewing water, and emptied it back into our underground water holder.  Everyone was pretty much soaked by the end of the evening!

The Dennings had some friends stop by who they met through their blog. They are traveling to Nicaragua to live and learn Spanish.  Great family and always fun to meet fellow home school/traveling families!
