Last month when we went to Reno, we got some fabric from Grandma. (this is all sounding
familiar...perhaps I've already blogged about this!) Here the kids are busily cutting out squares for their quilts. Em wants to donate hers to a child in foster care, and the others are going to be donated to a women and children's shelter here in UT. Yesterday, in talking to a friend at church, I found out about an organization that collects donations (
hygiene kits, shoes, clothing, etc.) for an
orphanage in Africa. Their website is www.greeneyesinafrica.org. This friend of mine works for this non-profit organization, and next week we are going to see exactly what she does, projects she has going on, and learn how we can help. Green Eyes in Africa got started because of my friend's friend who went over to Africa about 6 years ago, and visited an orphanage. The living conditions for these children were horrific. So, he set up Green Eyes in Africa to raise money to help these children. They have been very successful, and the
orphanage has been
improved dramatically because of his efforts. How wonderful it is to be able to help...especially when the need is so great.
All the kids get a short (10-15) min. piano lesson by me on Sundays. Calvin is learning a hymn here, and he's also is re-learning Fur Elise. Nicky is learning "A Child's Prayer", Devon is working on "I Love to See the Temple", and Em likes to work on lots of different primary songs. They are all doing very well and have great ears for music!
